This is a cute float but I wouldn't recommend it past 18 months. My son is 2 years old and his weight keeps pulling in the front and back so he doesn't like to be in it. He is average weight, 29 lbs, so that wasnt' the issue. I kept pulling it down so that he didn't get trapped between the front and back. Under 2 would probably be perfect though. It does provide great shade.
